Early October, the YouTube Symphony Orchestra announced its return for a second season. Amateur musicians around the globe have a chance to play at the Sydney Opera House in March 2011. Contestants are required to upload an audition tape to YouTube, which would be judged by a panel of musicians. Finalists are then voted upon by the YouTube community. Michael Tilson Thomas of San Francisco Symphony is directing again.
I badly wanted to become a part of this orchestra. Besides, I have never been to Australia!
For the classical violin audition, I was required to play a 10-minute audition on the following : Bach Partita No. 2 Allemande Mozart Concerto No. 4 - mvt. 1 excerpt Mendelssohn Symphony No. 4 - mvt. 1 excerpt Beethoven Symphony No. 9 - mvt. 3 excerpt (my favorite one) Strauss Don Juan excerpt
Unfortunately, I found out about this opportunity fairly late in the game. I also ran into some major technical problems. After many attempts, I was unable to upload my whole audition tape onto YouTube, so I ended up putting only the first 5 minutes of it on the site. And the upload STILL took 9 hours.
Despite my efforts, I think I am disqualified. Oh well. Hopefully, there will be another YTSO next year.
