Central Florida Sees Its First Case of Cholera

ORLANDO – The Orange County Health Department has confirmed Central Florida’s first case of cholera. The female victim had recently moved to the area from Haiti and has fully recovered from the disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed her laboratory sample, sent from Orange County, was positive for cholera.

This is Florida's second cholera case. The Florida Health Department confirmed the first case in Collier County earlier this month.

Cholera is a diarrheal disease, which may lead to death if left untreated. Health officials warn that travelers who have been exposed to the bacterial infection in Haiti may become ill after they return to Florida. [HealthyState.org | FPR Spot]
